All rights, including copyright in the what now? website and its contents, are owned by Lancashire County Council. Content may not be copied, reproduced, republished, downloaded, posted, broadcast or transmitted in any way except for your own personal non-commercial home or educational use. Any other use requires the prior written permission of what now? Services. By using this site you agree not to adapt, alter or create a derivative work from any of the material contained in this site or use it for any other purpose other than for your personal non-commercial use.

2. Acceptable Use


You agree to use this site only for lawful purposes, and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of this site by any third party. Such restriction or inhibition includes, without limitation, conduct which is unlawful, or which may harass or cause distress or inconvenience to any person and the transmission of obscene or offensive content or disruption of normal flow of dialogue within this site.


3. Information Published On This Site


This web site is produced as is.
Expert advice and every reasonable precaution has been taken to ensure that the information within this site is trustworthy and reliable, but the publishers do not hold themselves responsible for any inaccuracy as information can go out of date very quickly. This site gives general guidance only and should not be treated as a complete and authoritative statement of the law. If you have concerns regarding your position we recommend you seek the advice of a suitably qualified professional who has experience within your area of concern. Due to the often unpredictable nature of the internet we cannot guarantee that our services or the information they offer will be available to you.

4. Contributions


Where you are invited to contribute to this site your submission will grant us royalty free licences to use, modify or publish your work into other mediums, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that any identities are protected. By contributing you agree that your contribution is:

  1. your own original work and that you have the right to make it available to us for all the purposes specified above;
  2. is not defamatory; and 
  3. does not infringe any law or others legal rights.

5. Costs


There is no charge for using our web based services. You may and are encouraged to use them as often as you like. We will not be responsible for any costs you incur whilst connected to the service i.e. call charges, Internet Service Provider access charges etc.

6. Data Protection


In line with data protection requirements clients enquiries and our response to them will be kept for at minimum 65 working days. Clients may ask for earlier deletion of a message if required. The only information held about clients/ users will be their email address. It is our policy that this information will not be used by us for any other purpose than replying to their enquiry (as sent through the enquiry zone- see below) or to keep users informed about developments in our services through an email news letter you elect to receive.

7. Browser History


Users should be aware that Browsers keep a history of sites visited. Clients/users who are particularly concerned about confidentiality issues and wish to remove evidence of use of our services should clear their history folder and delete their temporary internet files.

8. Malicious Internet Activity


You must not use our online service for any malicious activity i.e. the transmission of virus's, macro's or other code designed to disrupt, change in anyway or take control of the receivers system. We cannot guarantee that you will be protected from malicious internet activity and recommend that you install internet protection software which should include anti virus, privacy protection, and intruder prevention and detection. It is important that this software is able to receive on line updates and that you use this facility regularly.

9. Enquiries sent through Interactive Services (Q2A, WebTalk and TXT SMS)


You may send us an information and advice enquiry according to the following conditions We will only deal with this type of enquiry if sent on our enquiry form accessed through the Q2a Site. All other enquiries in whatever format will be deleted on arrival!

a) Replies

There are two choices available for replies - direct email and bulletin board:

b) Replies sent by email

Under normal circumstances we will endeavour to reply to every enquiry we receive within one working day (though not necessarily 24hrs.) Replies will be sent to the email address specified on our enquiry form. Due to the often unpredictable nature of the Internet, users should be aware that we cannot guarantee the successful delivery of emails. Replies will be sent as a plain text email or HTML. We reserve the right to change this format.

c) Replies posted on the bulletin board

Under normal circumstances replies will be posted on the bulletin board within three working days. Replies will stay on the board for one calendar month and then they will be removed. We will not post replies with pseudonyms (chosen names) which we deem to be offensive or derogatory or oppressive. We reserve the right to edit the original enquiry for publishing purposes.

Copyright ownership of questions posted on the bulletin board becomes that of Lancashire County Council. Questions and replies may be used in any future publicity or publication produced by Lancashire County Council or their agents - every reasonable precaution to protect the anonymity of individuals will be taken. Please note: The bulletin board is viewable by anyone with internet access! Clients should take every precaution to protect their own identity when requesting that their enquiries be posted on the board!

d) Confidentiality

All of the enquiries sent to us will be treated in the strictest confidence. However you should be aware of the following issues relating to our confidentiality policy:
Your enquires may be considered by more than one person within our organisation.


We are part of Lancashire Youth & Community Service and as such we have to follow local authority guidelines with reference to child Protection cases.


All our workers are expected to work within the law.


Information about you will not be passed on to any third party without your prior consent. This would not apply if information arises from a client with threats or disclosure of offences under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1989. We have a duty to override the confidential relationship.


We may consider breaking confidentiality if a clients or third parties situation is deemed dangerous / or life threatening if:


Immediate medical treatment is necessary due to physical damage


Imminent threat of suicide is made or where suicide has been attempted. All threats of suicide will be taken seriously.


the client is threatening to kill or severely harm a third party.


We feel strongly that the client is in immediate danger but hasn't got enough information to make an adequate assessment.


Danger as a result of a child protection issue is threatend
